Week #2
HELLOOOOOOO!
Oh
my goodness where do I even begin. This has been the most amazing and crazy
week ever. I just need to start off by saying the the Lord answers prayers. My
companion is the most amazing person. Sister Suman has such an amazing
testimony and knows so much about the gospel. She is my best friend and we have
already had so much success together.
Last
Friday we got to go to the Provo temple as a district. The Sisters did a
session and the Elders did initiatories (I don't know how to spell it and the
computers don't have spell check. Oh how I miss spell check haha) man I am the
worst at spelling. I was thankful that I got the opportunity to go to the
temple. Sister Suman and I sat in the celestial room for a good 45 minutes. I
was awesome!
Sunday
was fast Sunday and we started off the day with mission conference. The MTC
presidency and their wives spoke. They answered so many questions that I have
had! After we had sacrament meeting with our zones. It was fast and testimony
meeting. I don't think I have ever felt the spirit so strong before. It is
amazing to see that each of have trials. We are all going through different
things, but our Savior Jesus Christ helps overcome all of it. Later that night
we had a devotional by Chad Lewis. Him and his wife came and spoke to us about
the importance of never giving up.
There
is so much to tell you all but I just don't have enough time ahh! In
class we have been learning how to teach the restoration simply and to out
investigators needs. Our first investigator Sister Suman and I had the
opportunity to teach was Tino. (Our teacher is the one who pretends to be the
investigator.) These are called PI's here at the MTC. Our first lesson was
awesome. We got to know Tino and his needs. His wife and kids are going to church
and he is wondering why their lives are changing. As we talked to him we
taught him about the restoration and how his family can live together forever!
WE INVITED HIM TO BE BAPTIZED ON THE FIRST LESSON and guess what he said......
YES! Sister Suman and I were so grateful that the spirit was able to testify to
him of the things that are true. Our teacher stopped us after and expressed to
us that, that was one of the top 5 lessons he has had as a teacher at the MTC!!
Sister Suman and I started to cry because being a missionary is one of the
hardest things we have ever done, but it is moments like this that make it so
rewarding!!
Another
amazing thing that has happened this week was that we started TRC this week!
This is where we get to teach real investigators. Some are real investigators
and some are members acting as investigators. Our TRC's name is Kaelin and she
is the sweetest person I have ever met. Her boyfriend is a member and has
invited her to take lessons with the missionaries. She is from Maryland and
moved to Utah to go to school at BYU. She is taking a Book Of Mormon class and
wants to know more about the church. The first time we met with her we talked
about the atonement! The spirit with this sweet Sister was so strong. She has a
testimony of our Savior Jesus Chirst! She was so concerned about prayer and so
we invited her to pray and continue to read the Book Of Mormon. The second time
that we met with her she expressed how prayer had helped her relationship with
the Savior and that it has grown. She also told us that she prayed about the
Book Of Mormon and know that it is true. Kaelin told us a story, on tuesday night
Elder Chrisofferson came and did a devotional! It was seriously so so amazing.
He talked about the importance of repentance and how we need to teach it to our
investigators! anyways as she was walking out from a meeting and Elder
Chrisofferson SHOOK HER HAND!! Sister Suman and I were so excited to hear her
news! We continued to teach her about the restoration and the plan of
salvation. At the end of our lesson we asked her if she would be willing to be
baptized and she said YES!!!!!! The spirit really is the teacher!
I
don't have much time but I wanted to thank you all for your dear elders!! They
have helped me so so much! I am so thankful that I get the opportunity to be a
missionary. It is the hardest thing that I have ever loved to do!! I love this
gospel and want you all to know how true it is! I love my Savior Jesus Christ
and am thankful that he atoned for all of my sins so that I can make it back to
my Father in Heaven!!
Love,
Sister
Kenzie Graham
PS FUNNY STORY: Sunday night around 9:30 we were
walking back to our residence out in Vietnam (seriously takes 10 mins to walk
from where our classroom is to our residence, because there are still bats in
our old building haha) the path we have to take to get there is super dark and
is under construction and backs up to the neighbors back yard so it is kind of
scary haha. anyways we were almost there when we see a guy came out of a tree
and screamed in our faces. he was wearing normal clothes and didn't have a
missionary tag on or a companion. He chased us and I tripped over the
curb and fell, Sister Barkdull helped me up and HE STILL CHASED US. I ran into
the residence and Sister Suman used the red emergency phone to call security
and told them what happened. Some elders came out and told the sisters to go
back inside because we didn't know who this guy was (he had his hand in his
pocket so one Elder thought he had a gun or something). We stayed inside
and looked through the window and saw that he was trying to chase the security
guards. We couldn't see anymore, but Sister Cook (one of our roommates) had a
panic attack for like 15 minutes so that was really sad. We told our
branch President the next day and he was so mad, he made the MTC presidency put
a light outside of our building and now makes the Elders in our district walk
us home every night. Turns out the guy was just an elder who ditched his
companion and wanted to be funny. At the time I thought I was going to
die but now we look back and kind of laugh about it haha
